RESTORE Initiative
Empowering Children of Incarcerated or Deceased Parents.
The RESTORE Initiative is an after-school program dedicated to supporting students across Maryland, the District of Columbia, and West Virginia who have experienced the incarceration or loss of a parent. These children often face overlapping challenges—emotional trauma, behavioral struggles, academic setbacks, and the strain placed on caregivers. RESTORE offers a safe, nurturing space where healing begins and potential is rediscovered. Through structured support, mentorship, and enrichment activities, the program helps students build resilience, regain confidence, and reconnect with their sense of possibility.
The Challenge: Generational Trauma and Limited Support
Children who have lost a parent to incarceration or death often face a cascade of challenges—emotional trauma, academic disruption, behavioral struggles, and caregiver stress. In Maryland, D.C., and West Virginia, these children are disproportionately underserved, with few programs tailored to their unique needs. Without intervention, they risk falling into cycles of hardship that span generations.
The Solution: Holistic, Healing-Centered Programming
The RESTORE Initiative offers a comprehensive after-school program for students, rooted in mentorship, academic support, family engagement, and mental health services. Through strategic partnerships and evidence-based practices, RESTORE provides:
One-on-one and group mentoring to build trust, resilience, and life skills
Academic tutoring in literacy and math to close learning gaps
Family bonding events to strengthen caregiver relationships and reconnect with incarcerated parents
Access to counseling and case management to address emotional and socioeconomic barriers
Project-Based Learning using digital media and storytelling to help youth reflect, heal, and inspire others
RESTORE is not just a program—it’s a community-led movement to restore hope, dignity, and opportunity.
